It’s always worth talking your concerns through with your health visitor first. We have also included the link to the local children’s therapy service telephone advice line which you can use to talk through your concerns with a speech and language therapist directly.

Self-Help and Resources

  • Chat health: Offers a simple, convenient text messaging service for young people and parents to provide health related support for the Health Visitor and School Nurse Service.

  • Hampshire Healthy Families: This website explains all about your local Health Visiting and School Nurse service, including information about activities and events happening near you and a range of workshops such as Baby and Toddler Talk

  • First Words Together: A National Literacy Trust programme to support babies and toddlers who may need early help with speech, language and communication development before the age of two. Delivered in libraries across Hampshire.

  • Support from your local Health Visiting Team including Wellcomm Intervention -Individualised assessment of you child’s development which includes Speech Language and Communication. Following assessment we are able to offer one to one support, incorporating The Wellcomm intervention resource, or referral in to group and Specialist offers.

  • Tots Talking: A Speech and Language UK 8-week programme for parents and carers which aims to improve communication skills in two-year-olds by supporting with parent/child interaction. These sessions may either be attended virtually or face to face and are delivered by the Family Help Teams. Please speak to you Health Visitor or Early years setting to discuss a referral.

  • Educational Psychology (EP) support line: This a free confidential phone line for parents and carers in Hampshire to access information from Educational Psychologists. They are on hand to talk through the problems facing you and your child, whether that’s by listening to you think aloud, giving you helpful strategies, or signposting you to other contacts or services.
