Equipment and Care Technology House

Your front door

Your front door

There are many products that can make your doors more accessible as well as helping you to feel safe; for example, folding doors, sliding doors, automatic doors, door openers and closers, door sensors and holders, video doorbells and door entry systems, lock chains and keysafes, handles and turners.

There are numerous suppliers that can be found with a quick Google search. Try a search for specific items, eg key safes or door handles and turners. It is always useful to compare prices for the same equipment on different websites; some may be on sale or special offer. We would also recommend searching for customer reviews for specific equipment and suppliers, particularly for more expensive items.

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) offers independent, professional advice and information to help you find out what is available for private purchase. Their Living Made Easy website offers guidance on and information about products you can buy to help you with everyday tasks. They also have a Helpline on 0300 999 0004 where you can discuss areas of daily living you find difficult with an experienced advisor.

The Hampshire Bobby Scheme provides free home security and safety checks to anyone in Hampshire who is vulnerable, disabled or over the age of 65. This service is also available to those most vulnerable due to disability or long-term illness. Telephone 0300 777 0157.
