Self-Help and Resources

  • BBC Tiny Happy People: Website to support language development and communication skills from pregnancy to five years.

  • Words for life: Quick and easy tips and activities to boost your child’s communication skills.

  • Speech and Language UK: Information and advice for families, including a progress checker and ages and stages of language development.

  • Healthier Together: Communicating and talking skills, a breakdown of what to expect in terms of understanding, language development and other ways of communicating from birth to five years.

  • Hampshire Healthy Families: This website explains all about your local Health Visiting and School Nurse service, including information about activities and events happening near you and a range of workshops such as Baby Talk and Toddler Talk.

  • Solihull Approach online courses available from pregnancy: Online courses for parents, grandparents and carers covering from conception to the teenage years, dedicated to improving emotional health, child development and wellbeing for all.

  • Portage Parent platform: There is so much that you can do to help your child at home and we hope that the resources, ideas and activities on this page will help you to do this.

All libraries have a family collection of books, which provides books to support parents and carers.

They also have a resource called, 'When a book might help' which can help you have conversations with young children about a range of fears, challenges and life changes, from separation anxiety to fear of the dark.

Rhymetime and Story time - free universal offers for children from birth to five years at your local library which include singing songs and rhymes or listening to stories.

  • Hampshire's SEND Local Offer: Hampshire's SEND Local Offer contains information and advice for parents, children and young people with SEND. As a part of this will be able to find details of how our individual early years settings can support your child with their development.
