Keep cool this summer

With temperatures looking to stay high, it's important to look after yourself during the hot weather.

Tips for coping in hot weather:

  • keep out of the heat if you can, especially during 11am - 3pm
  • if you have to go outside, stay in the shade
  • wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes
  • avoid exercise that makes you hotter
  • have cold drinks and food
  • avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes

Try and keep your living space cool by:

  • closing the windows during the day and keep them open at night after the temperatures have gone down
  • close the curtains in rooms that face the sun

Check in on friends and family who are:

  • older, especially those over 75 and female
  • those who live on their own or in a care home
  • those with a long-term health condition

It's important to stay hydrated, particularly during hot weather. See more information about staying hydrated on our health and wellbeing pages.
